He negotiated with Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.
He was given his post as the Foreign Secretary without being elected, which almost caused a vote of censure (1960).
He resigned from the House of Lords and disclaimed his Earldom, so he could become Prime Minister.
The dust had hardly cleared from the controversy when he lost the general election (October, 1964).
Why he might not be annoying
He was a skilled Foreign Secretary, serving before and after he became Prime Minister in conservative governments.
He is the only Prime Minister that resigned from the House of Lords to enter the House of Commons.
