Why he might be annoying
He’s best known for portraying a bitter, flamboyant, disfigured transsexual.
He is a political activist who vocally opposed the Iraq war.
He followed up ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ with ‘Shortbus,’ a controversial art film in which actors have actual sex on camera.
He used to imagine love scenes between Batman and Robin as a teenager.
His DVD commentary tracks are excruciatingly dull.
Why he might not be annoying
He was an ‘army brat’ who had to move from base to base growing up.
Both the stage and film versions of ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ were critically acclaimed.
They are not only popular with gays, but also with heterosexuals and ‘others.’
He won the Best Director award at the Sundance Film Festival (2001).
He was so convincing as Hedwig that many people believe he’s a transvestite in real life (but he’s not).
He is modest and down to earth in interviews.
